Running for His Life
Lopez Lomong: From Sudanese lost boy to flag-bearer for the US Olympic Team.
Lopez Lomong was only 6 years old when he was kidnapped by rebels in the Second Sudanese Civil War. He was taken from his family and imprisoned, becoming one of the twenty thousand Lost Boys of Sudan.
He somehow miraculously escaped and ran barefooted nonstop for 72 hours until he reached Kenya. He lived there in a refugee camp for 10 years until being adopted by a family in the U.S.
In 2008, he was the U.S. flag bearer during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. In 2012, he ran on the US team— so we should all expect him to defy the odds in Japan.
