I grew up in bourbon country - Lexington, Ky. After earning an undergraduate degree in Painting and Drawing from the University of Kentucky, I received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
I have studied portraiture and life drawing with noted artists such as Nancy Honea, Casey Baugh, Kerry Dunn, Shane McDonald and many fine instructors at Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia. One of my best learning experiences came from teaching others at the Art Institute of Atlanta for four years.
I work with Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator every day. I have participated in numerous workshops in photography, lighting, typography, graphic design, marketing, and user experience.
I now practice graphic design at AutoIMS, a software development company in Atlanta, GA, co-facilitate a figure drawing group, and paint in Studio K-2 at the Artisan Resource Center in Marietta, GA.
Whether it’s capturing the human condition during a life drawing session, analyzing still-life composition, plein air painting outdoors or communicating ideas through graphic design and branding, my goal is to explore and capture the essence of my subject.
