Kay Lybrand Works

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, currently residing in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

My work is inspired by nature. I chooses my subject matter for a variety of reasons: to explore color, mood, and the overall theme. Having grown up in South Carolina, I spent much time on the coast and fell in love with the soft ever changing light, particularly in the marshes.  For me, the mystery of the landscape is a metaphor for life- full of transitions, both subtle and dramatic, soft and delicate, others more severe.  My goal is to translate in paint the realism and abstraction and let them merge and co-exist in a beautiful way.

I received my BFA from  the University of South Carolina, and have studied at the Art Students League in New York. In addition, I have taken numerous workshops with some of the masters in the painting world. Including: David Leffel, Nelson Shanks, and Albert Handel. I have been accepted into the Southeastern International Pastel Society for their 13th and 14th Exhibitions, and other National Competitions.

I am a member of the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist and Women Painters of the Southeast.

I have exhibited in 2014 and 2015 at the Southeastern Wildlife Exhibition. and 2015, 2016 Piccolo Spoleto art exhibit
